2U, Our Program Partner
The University of Southern California (USC) has partnered with 2U Inc. to power and support DPT@USC, the hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Founded in 2008 by a team of education and technology veterans, 2U enables leading colleges and universities to deliver their high-quality degree programs online to qualified students anywhere.
In addition to the USC, 2U currently works with a number of leading U.S. universities to support their online graduate programs, including Northwestern University, UC Berkeley and Yale University. 2U supports graduate and doctoral programs across the fields of health care, education, nursing, business and communications, public administration, law, international affairs, counseling and data science. As part of our partnership, 2U provides the following services:
Students in the hybrid DPT program access a virtual campus for their classes, coursework and networking. The platform, which is available on most internet-enabled devices, is powered by 2U. The 2U approach is best described as No Back Row® and features an online classroom that brings students face-to-face for live class sessions. Program instruction is led by USC faculty and instructors and is designed with intuitive, familiar features that foster connection and collaboration.
We know many students choose an online program to take advantage of the flexibility of the platform. To make the DPT@USC program as convenient as possible, 2U brings the online campus to mobile devices with apps for smartphones and tablets. These apps allow students to access coursework online and offline.
In preparation for live class discussions, students watch professionally developed, prerecorded content created by USC faculty in collaboration with 2U content strategists. The 2U team helps partner university faculty members turn their traditional classroom lectures and materials into engaging, interactive content custom made for the online environment. USC faculty from the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical therapy design, author and deliver all content, while 2U provides video production services.
Course content is not simply recorded lectures, but an interactive learning experience. Coursework includes video case studies, discussions between professors and students, dynamic faculty presentations and interactive elements in which professors can see students’ progress and leave comments and feedback leading up to the live class session.
USC works with 2U to identify and reach the most qualified candidates around the world. 2U’s marketing and recruiting efforts support USC’s goal of finding students who are most likely to succeed in the rigorous DPT program. 2U also provides an online application and application management system, which ensures a seamless process for applicants and for USC administrators who review candidates. As with all USC programs, applicants are reviewed by faculty, and candidates receive final admissions decisions from university administration.
Student and Faculty Support
2U prepares faculty to deliver classes and course materials on the online platform so that they are best able to use the tools available in the virtual classroom. 2U also offers orientation to all online students before classes begin. Dedicated support continues throughout the program with technical support available during every live session.
2U provides both USC and its students with a dedicated clinical placement team. Through technology-enabled services, this team works with USC’s faculty and clinical education team to identify appropriate clinical experiences for each student based on his or her location and educational goals and objectives.
